Misrecognition

In recent years, as I've gone about my work I've been misrecognised as:
1. Jewish
2. Arab
3. A far-right activist
4. A far-left activist

What this tells me, I don't know. I haven't deliberately tried to look or act like any of these, as though there is really a stereotypical way of being X anyhow. I think that it's all about expectations - if you're getting on with someone then they think you're from their background, if you are doing research then you're oppositional or supporting. In reality, the only thing that I am is nosey - always was, and always will be.
